Champagne Wine Region

Champagne is a wine region situated at the north east of France. The name Champagne was drived from the Latin word "campania" which means "plain". The County Champagne was included in France in year 1314. The county is situated in the dry plateau that is in the direction of Paris. This infertile plateau is being reforested .To the east of Champagne are orchards, the fertile cornfields, pastures. Champagne has a tragic history attached to. It was a battleground and has witnessed many wars which took place in France. The Champagne City also has a prosperous textile industry, initially dependent on the sheep-raising of the Champagne. Champagne is well known for its white wine. The temperature of Champagne refers to 10 to 15 degrees.

The history of Champagne goes like this. In the Middle Age Champagne was under Merovingian rulers but by the 10th century, Champagne became a traditional estate which was known as the county of Champagne. Than in 1314, when the count of Champagne, succeeded as Louis X, King of France than finally Champagne was declared as a territory of the royal domain of France. The county started gaining popularity on the bases of its commercial fairs where merchants from all Europe were present. At present Champagne have the departments of Ardennes, and Haute-Marne and parts of Aisne, Seine-et-Marne, Yonne, and Meuse, Marne and Aube.
